Alan Meininghaus is the founder and owner of The Driven Rower. Using his personal skills learned as an accomplished oarsman and coach, he can bring you to the next level of competitive rowing. He will create a strategic training plan to help you achieve your top performance for either a PR or race day competition.

Alan Meininghaus - Founder/Coach

Coach Alan has been involved in the sport of rowing since he was 14 years old. He is the Founder & Coach of The Driven Rower.

Coach Alan grew up in Pittsburgh, PA surrounded by water. During his high school rowing career, he won several National Championships with North Allegheny High School in Wexford, PA. He went on to row at the University of Washington, in Seattle, WA from 2008-2012, where he won two National championships and an International championship. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Washington. He is also a 2014 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science degree in Sports Management and a concentration in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration.

His coaching career began with Three Rivers Rowing Association in Pittsburgh, PA and he achieved award-winning years with two high school rowing teams in Pittsburgh, PA. He returned to Washington as an assistant coach for the 2014-2015 UW men’s rowing season which achieved a National Championship. He coached two boats that each won gold at the IRA National Championship. He accepted the position of assistant coach with the UW woman’s rowing team for the 2015-2016 team season. He coached the women’s varsity four to a silver medal at the NCAA National Championship in 2016.
From 2016 to 2020, he was the head coach at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio and associate head coach at Magnificat High School in Rocky River, Ohio. During his time with both teams, he has instructed and guided many students to achieve their goals and continue to row at the collegiate level from club, D-III, D-II, and D-I programs.

Coach Alan also served on the Midwest/Central Men ODP coaching staff during the summer of 2019, and the Midwest/Central Men Youth Regional Challenge coaching staff in the fall of 2019. He coached the Under16 eight and four to gold medals at the Youth Regional Challenge.

In his free time, Coach Alan loves watching sports of all kinds and going to sporting events. He enjoys going flying, hiking, and outdoor activities with his dog, Teddy.
